I was privileged to cover the Hope Lives! Pink Boa 5K to benefit breast cancer survivors and their families. In addition to all of the fabulous pink boas everywhere, the day was filled with smiles, support and optimism. You can’t be a pessimist dressed in Pink! :)
A few of the Colorado Ice Cheerleaders, Heather and Lindsey, joined the cause to cheer on the runners. However, one of the race officials got distracted trying to learn their dance moves…
And the race begins!
Everyone knows that a benefit race isn’t just about the fastest time. Gallegos Sanitation was a large sponsor and they took turns pulling a trash can. Friends walked the race for an opportunity to catch up along the course.
Look at all of the Pink!
At the home stretch, there were happy, tired and victorious racers!
At the finish line, the thrill of victory increased!!
An additional event was the kid’s Fun Run. They didn’t want to stay behind the “pacer.”
At the end, there was a touching ceremony honoring the cancer survivors, including the founder of the Hope Lives! foundation, Lydia Dody. Balloons were released to memorialize those lost to the disease, and it was a sentimental moment for all.
