Sarah and Dean: Take Two! After an amazing, intimate wedding last year and then a really cool engagement session in the oval, this pair celebrated their year (and a day) anniversary by renewing their vows with (more) family & friends at the Marriott in Fort Collins. Yes, it was in August. ;) I am catching up!

So typical. Having a great time!

Yowza, Sarah! SO SO SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

We did some formals (and not so formal) before the ceremony. They have such awesome and fun friends!

The Kooiman Brothers and the Sara(h) Kooimans. So Perfect! :)

One cool thing about the ceremony is that it was in the round, so the guests sat in a semi-circle around the center. Very unique.

Since it was a vow renewal, they opted to walk themselves down the aisles (yes, there were two) and then met up on the platform. Again, a very neat idea!

And, being the cool couple they are, cut their cake during the ceremony!

Dean is hilarious and they laugh all the time! :)

Meet Ashley, my last 2012 senior!

We were connected through her mom, who, many moons ago used to babysit me and my sister while she was a CU student! We reconnected, of course, through facebook!

It was certainly a full-circle moment when she and her daughter traveled out to Boulder to get her portraits taken by me! It was so neat!

Ashley’s super smart and super sweet. :)

And looks just like her mom…

We then headed to campus to get some at the pond…

Ashley, I can’t wait to read about your accolades and amazing discoveries soon! It was so special working with you and seeing your mom again!

This might surprise some of my newer clients…I’m not just a photographer.

I am a teacher. A music director, in fact. (And not just because my last name is Horn!)

In my past life, I was a middle school band and orchestra teacher and I had let go of teaching to be a full-time photographer. Yes, I did get to actually make that happen!

And though I was plenty grateful to be busy enough to support this occupation…I missed it. So as I began subbing on the side, an opportunity came up that I just couldn’t refuse.

Last May, I accepted a position at Windsor High School as a band director. It’s an interim (one year only), part time position for the current director who returned to Illinois to obtain his master’s degree. Since I knew the students a bit from subbing and my interactions with them, it seemed like a great fit. And, I figured, that it being part time, I could still maintain my workload of photography clients.

Hi,
My name is Susan and I over extend myself AND I have unrealistic expectations. :)

This little part time job got way out of hand. Entirely my fault, for two reasons: one–not comprehending what part time actually means. I should have recognized that just because it was part time pay, I wouldn’t really be putting part time hours into it. HA! I mean, this is me we’re talking about. I have issues with boundaries and saying no.

The second was less about me and more about the job. The program is extremely successful and the students have two directors. It became evident to me that if I stuck to my part time obligations, I would not only be letting the students down, but also my wonderful colleague. She was already doing plenty and I didn’t want to add to her workload just because I was a part-timer. So I spent a LOT of time at school.

And then my mom got cancer. I wasn’t really ever home any more, let alone working in front of my computer…

To my wonderful clients, I am admitting that I should have scaled back a lot, especially during marching band season. Too little too late.

However, this little story has a great ending.

This little band I was working with WON STATE. That’s right: 3A State Champions.

I also want to point out that this day–October 24, 2011, Bryan and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary of our first date.
AND, I became an Aunt that day! It was a fantastic day and I’ll never forget it!!

Thanks for being so understanding and letting me do this. It was such an amazing experience and I am getting back to my other work! ♥

They both had a driving impact on my future as a teacher–and it’s fantastic to be able to photograph them as a family.

Malyna Grace has an amazing story about how she landed in the hearts of these two…

This little one and I go way back. She’s always going to have a special place in my heart because she was the first. :) Here’s a link to her newborn session.

But, now she’s a roly-poly 9 month old and cute as a button! And, smiled the whole time. She did great!

I was so excited to see Sarah & Dean again! They are such a cool, unique couple that has already been through a lot together. I had the distinct privilege of photographing their wedding last year, knowing that in a year we’d be getting together for “official” engagement photos and their vow renewal. Since they are also Rams, we met at the Oval for their engagement session. I loved catching their personalities, and how sweet and sincere they were to each other. Oh, and Sarah’s fabulous dresses. :)

Say “oom-pah” to Austin!
He’s THE tuba player in the Pride of Windsor Marching Band, and it was so fun to head into the Environmental Learning Center for his senior session.

The only thing we could have all done without were the BUGS!! :)

I had a dream about this shot–and I just had to recreate it. My dreams think I did a good job…

You can’t get any more Austin than his jeep and his tuba….

We got up EA-RLY to go to his family’s land and capture Greg.

I loved this whole session!

Greg is really interested in being a vet, and I think he’s going to do great!
